Summer Learning journey

LI: To celebrate our success

Last week Friday we held a special assembly in the hall. It was about the summer learning journey, we did over the summer. I was so excited to see  who got what awards. Mrs Grant came to give all the awards, and I was so surprised that one of our most youngest participant (Maxwell), got the certificate for the most summer learning journey activities completed. The next award was given to the people who continued to do the summer learning journey, after school. All their names were put into a hat and Mrs Grant got to pull it, and out of suprise she called out my name.

After claming my award we took pictures of everyone who got a certificate/awards. Not just that but our school won the best award of all. We won the award for the most summer learning journey points out of all the schools that participated.

Up here you can see all the people who got awards/certificates.

Narrative recording – My first leap

For Literacy me and my partner (Vaha) created a recording of our narrative slideshow. We used Gemini to help us create all the images you see in the slideshow. We really enjoyed recording this, as it was my first ever time recording on Google slides.

Apology Letter – Bok Choy

Dear, Ah Sum

I want to start by expressing my gratitude, and my acknowledgement for your kindness and care to risk your life, for me. Even if I lacked the respect and esteem, furthermore I want to thank you for providing me with a hot cup of tea upon my waking, making me feel really cozy and safe.

“In addition I also want to apologise. I’ve been thinking about what happened, and I’m really sorry I didn’t stand up for you when William was mocking you. Seeing you walk away while I just stood there, and even joined in by commenting on the food, felt wrong.

I didn’t mean what I said about the Chinese cabbages, I think I just got caught up in the moment. I value the way you put others first and I’m sorry for letting you down.”

I also want to acknowledge your thoughtfulness, to carry the memories of your ancestors through the paintings, showing me that they were not just pigments on a canvas but a spiritual love that can never be broken.

“I’ve been thinking about your family in Canton.  I can’t imagine how hard it is to be apart from them. I hope you all get to be together again soon.

Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I am truly sorry for my shortcomings and for failing you when it mattered. I hope we can move past this.”
Regards, Jacob

LI: To understand we make judgements based on stereotyping, assumptions and prejudices

For Reading  in LS2 me and my group were reading a book called “Bok Choy.” This story was about the Asian migrants, who migrated to NZ, looking for money to send back to their families. There was one asian elder named “Ah Sum” who got persucated and shamed for his old appearance. So for this challendge we had to make an apology letter to Ah Sum while pretending to be one of the boys who were shaming him.

AI Reverse Challenge

This week for Inquiry/cybersmart we were learning to prompt Ai to create specific images. Our challenge was to create a specific image of a leopard on a branch, overseeing the jungle bellow. Me and my partner Peter created six close images using refined prompts. Have a look through my slideshow, to see our versions of the image.

Johnny Pohe and the Great Escape

For reading we were learning about Johnny Pohe and his great escape. Johnny Pohe was a pilot that taught people and fought in wars, one day he got caught and was sent to prison camp in Germany. Him and other people that were caught in the prison made up a play to make three tunnels Tom, Dick and Harry. Dick and Tom were exploded and abandoned and Harry was the last standing one, they waited for a moonless night to escape.

Once that came they went for the opening and went into the tunnels, due to a delay only 200 people were supposed to make it out but only seventy six escaped, and three escaped safely. For this task we made the pros and cons of being an escapee or staying inside the prison. Check out the DLO my group made.

My first flight

LI: To write a narrative from the point of view of a baby owl on its fist flight

On a freezing night, as the sun began to set, my talons wobbled nervously on the branch, as tonight I was going to fly for the first time. My feathers seem to curl up, keeping me warm from the chilly breezes. My heart started thumping quickly, as I glanced at the dark forest below.  The heavy wind almost flew me off my balance, and the fear of falling tightened my throat. The rustling of the leaves and the cold whistle of the wind made me even more anxious. But a little part of me felt excited to finally use my wings.  Suddenly a massive gust of wind buffeted the tree, and my talons lost their grip on the rough bark. The rushing air squinted my eyes forcing them to close shut, I tried flapping as quickly as I could but I was still sinking in the air. The wind was going through my wings like silk as I tried to hurry to the surface. The dark ground raced toward me until my wings snapped open, catching a powerful breeze. Though they felt heavy at first, the wind began to guide them. Suddenly, I wasn’t falling anymore. I was slicing through the night. My wings grew stronger and lighter, as if an invisible hand were lifting me up towards the glowing moon. I finally felt free and I let go of the nervous chains that were holding me down and now the sky is mine. In the distance, I could hear my friends calling me to join them. I realized then that if I never took a risk, I would never truly learn. After all, taking that first leap is exactly what it means to be brave.

Mrs Anderson read us the book ‘First Flight’ by June Crebbin. We talked about the narrators point of view and used a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what the story might look like when told in the first person. I enjoyed using the Gem because is helped me use more advanced vocabulary, and it gave me hints of what I needed to change.

Subtraction Algorithms – DLO

LI:To calculate the differnce of whole numbers, using Algorithms

One of our main focus for maths this week is using subtraction Algorithms to find the diffrence of whole numbers.

Our group had to carefully read through our books using that information as a key to answer the questions. I have created this DLO to give you all the information you need to learn subtraction algorithms.
